History
Quistis Trepe, eighteen years old, is a member of SeeD and an instructor at Balamb Garden. She is a blue mage and is well trained with her whips and chains. Somewhat of a child prodigy, Quistis was fifteen when she passed her SeeD exam and was promoted to instructor only two years later. Because of her skill and calm, cool, collected attitude she was very popular among the students at Balamb Garden. She was demoted from the position of instructor as a result of a lack of leadership ability. The demotion was a positive thing, in a way, because it allowed her to develop a more informal relationship with her former students and gain many friends. And, in the end, Quistis regained her instructor's position after the defeat of Ultimecia.

Like so many of those she instructed and is friendly with, Quistis was orphaned during the Sorceress War. Both of her parents were killed. Luckily for her a young woman by the name of Edea Kramer allowed her to stay at the orphanage she was running. There she met Squall, Seifer, Selphie, Irvine, Zell and, her idol, Big Sis Ellone. She was a very pushy child which earned her the nickname "Bossy Quisty." After Ellone left for Esthar, Quistis vowed to make herself the second Big Sis at the orphanage because she was older than most of the other kids and so admired how they had looked up to Ellone. She also had a desire to take care of her friends. Unfortunately, not long after, she was adopted, a possibility that the happy days in the orphanage had caused her to all but forget about. Despite tears and pleading she was ripped away from the closest thing to a family that she'd ever had.

Things did not work out very well with the family who had adopted her. Though they were fairly wealthy they just did not seem to have the time for a daughter. She spent much time alone, a concept that had been completely unknown to her during her time in the orphanage. Quistis turned in on herself and became cold. She did not let herself become emotionally attached to anyone or anything. Her heart was full of pain and nothing could stop the aching.

Unable to reach her and disapproving of her attitude, her family sent her to Balamb Garden Military Academy at the age of ten. While there, Quistis trained using Guardian Forces. These beings eventually caused her to lose her memory. She forgot completely about her days in the orphanage and, if you had asked her at the time, she would have said that it was for the better. The hurting stopped and she bloomed into the stable, determined, calm Quistis that became so very popular around Garden.

While she enjoyed being an instructor, Quistis did have some difficulties. Two students, Squall and Seifer, always seemed to be giving her trouble. Their constant bickering always kept her on her toes and, more often than not, she was forced to break up their fights. Squall in particular piqued her interest and she developed somewhat of a crush on him. She joined Squall as his aid for his SeeD exam. Though she continually tried to gain his attention (and affection) he continually ignored her, driving her into a deep depression. With the appearance of Rinoa and Squall's attention falling to her, Quistis lost all hope and began to see herself as nothing but a failure. The final blow came in the form of her demotion. She did her best to swallow her pride and claim that she cared for him in a sisterly way but to this day she still has feelings for him.

She joined Squall and company in their quest to defeat Ultimecia. On this quest, along with the others, she recovered her memories of her years in the orphanage. The memory of her relationships made her feel again and reopened the wounds inside her heart. Older and wiser, though, she was ready to embrace the emotions that tore her apart before. She loves her memories now and would never give them up for anything. Quistis fearlessly fought alongside the rest of the team and, even though she had her doubts, was thrilled when they emerged victorious.

In the time since they completed their task, Quistis has been very busy. She was promoted back to instructor and has been teaching at Balamb Garden, wanting to inspire people the way that she was inspired. She is an active member of SeeD and likes to assume as much responsibility as she is allowed. Lately she has been much less of a wallflower, willing to speak up and share her thoughts, intelligence and opinions. In some respects, though, her life has gotten a little bit worse. She doesn't like to open her emotions up to attack and tries to only see Squall on business or with large social groups. Knowing that he doesn't love her still crushes her. Though she feels socially awkward at times she does her best to stay optimistic and to be as helpful and strong as possible.
